Stardate 20011007.0343 (On Screen): If you're going to lie, at least lie consistently. (Maybe a card file of past lies would help.) The Taliban claim they have between 40,000 and 60,000 troops ready to fight back against any US attack. (They don't know any more accurately than that?) This is an interesting contrast to their previous claim of 300,000 "well-experienced and equipped troops" they said before that they had. They say they're moving seven to ten thousand of them to the Uzbek border (accuracy?) and that they're prepared to fight to the last in order to repel any ground invasion. But since a large number of them are probably raw recruits impressed into service at gunpoint, the chance of them "fighting to the last" is nil. Beyond a certain point, bombastic lies work against you. (discuss)
