Stardate 20010926.0437 (On Screen): Remember those
three hundred thousand well-experienced and equipped troops that the Taliban said they were mobilizing to fight against the US? It turns out that they're rounding up every young man they can find, handing him a rifle, and sending him to the front. That is just about as far from being "well-experience" and "well-equipped" as it can be, and historically the record of performance of such improvised and involuntary military formations has been dismal. Sad to say, they also tend to take very high casualties.
(discuss)Update: There ain't any 300,000 even with this conscription. The Taliban's military power is a shadow of what it once was, and even then it wasn't all that formidable. Morale is going like cracking ice.
