(On Screen): Recently Anna Kournikova retired from professional tennis, with her record intact: despite being one of the top grossing tennis players, she never actually won a single major tournament.

Nonetheless, she raked in the dough doing endorsements. One has to entertain the sneaking suspicion that if she looked like Serena Williams, she would not have made anything like as much.

But do not cry for Anna; she's still in the money, at least for now. Yesterday, I happened to spot this on Amazon's site, on the front page:

"...only the ball should bounce"? Sez who?

OK, OK, there's a place for jiggle and place where it's probably not appropriate, and I'm an MCP. But it linked to a page where Amazon is selling the official Anna Kournikova sports bra.

She piled up millions of dollars doing advertising and modeling, and unless that's all been squandered, she should be set for life. I guess each of us has to play the cards life dealt us.

Life gave Serena Williams a strong arm and natural talent, and that's why she's winning. Life gave Kournikova natural blond hair and blue eyes, and that's why she's rich.
