USS Clueless - New strategic overview

Stardate 20030726.2339

(On Screen): Rather than try to write something new today, I took the strategic overview from last week and turned it into a separate document. (The original remains.) It seemed like something that was pretty important, but some aspects of that particular post would in the long run distract from the more important material.

In the new version, I removed everything involving Hesiod and the argument about "yellowcake". I reorganized it somewhat to make some sections more hierarchical and easier to follow. For instance, I grouped the specific justifications for attacking Iraq into sections labeled "Already a problem", "Military feasibility", "Political feasibility", "Strategic Suitability", "Potential for reform", "Symbolism and propaganda value", and "other factors". I also added a section there labeled "Potential problems".

In some sections I included at least a few links to supporting documents, but there aren't very many and there aren't going to be many. I don't really have any great urge to go back and review a couple of thousand of my older posts looking for all the ones which include support for most of the overview.

I also added a couple of new sections. In particular, at the end I added a section which explained some of the ways that we can still lose this war. There were new points added in a lot of places and I did a lot of rewriting elsewhere. I changed it so that the section numbers/letters are being generated automatically. I think the result is much more polished and will be more useful in the long run.

Update: Aziz Poonawalla responds to the overview.
