Stardate
20030428.1225 (On Screen): An Egyptian merchant-marine sailor met "someone" in Cairo and was given a suitcase. He traveled to Brazil to join his ship, which was loading bauxite intended for Canada. He was supposed to deliver the suitcase to "someone" in Canada, but being curious about the suitcase he opened it while in Brazil, and shortly thereafter died from anthrax. Like as not, having found the legendary white powder he suspected it was drugs, and took a sniff to see.
The Canadian government's response:
"There is absolutely no criminal or terrorist threat to Canada," Royal Canadian Mounted Police Insp. Dan Tanner said from Halifax.
Actually, he's probably right. The stuff was probably intended for the United States.
Needless to say, the question of the hour is "Where in hell did it come from?" Best guess? Iraq, via Syria, smuggled out before the end of the regime and given to Arab terrorists to be used to take revenge on the US.
Second best guess? Iraq, via Iran, smuggled out before etc.
Update 20030429: Now they claim that there was no suitcase, and that he did not actually die of anthrax. He died from internal bleeding and multiple organ failure so it must have been something rather impressive. If not anthrax, then what?
