20030324.1135 (Ship's log): Calling all Apache experts! I make my own copies of the pictures I post here, and sometimes I've been finding that other people elsewhere will link directly to the pictures, loading them off my server without acknowledgement. I suspect a lot of them don't even realize what they're doing and what affect it has on me, but it doesn't really matter.
In egregious cases I go and rename the file, but that's a pain. (I've already had to rename the protest "Shoot officers" picture twice.) What I'd like to know is if there's an easy way for me to set up so that files in certain directories can only be accessed with refers from my own server? It sounds like something that's probably there, but I don't want to dig through the rather opaque Apache documentation online to try to figure it out.
(By the way, it would also be nice to know if it's possibly to globally black out all accesses from certain refers.)
Update: Thanks for the help. This seems to be the best answer.
