20020801.1030 (On Screen): If anyone needed another example of why the Berkeley city council is the laughing stock of the US, we have yet another spiffy law passed by them. This one will send someone to jail for up to six months for the crime of selling brewed coffee which isn't either certified as Fair Trade, organic, or shade-grown.
(stunned pause)
I had all sorts of fevered ranting ready to go, but it occurs to me that it just isn't needed. The pompousness of this act by Berkeley speaks for itself.

By the way, note that this is an "or" rather than an "and"? It's OK under this law to sell coffee when the farmer gets shafted for price, if he has trees on his farm where birds can nest.
