(Captain's log): I'm on vacation. I expect to be back on Friday, 20020531, but if I'm enjoying myself I might decide to stay a day or two longer. (And if I catch something and start feeling wretched, which happened the last two times, I might come home early.)

It is my intention to not watch any TV news while I am gone, and to not read any newspapers, and I won't have any ability to get online. For one blessed week, the entire universe will be confined to the things I can see from my hotel window at the Luxor. Think locally, act locally shall be my motto. Try not to start World War III until I come back, won't you? I wouldn't want to miss it.
