20020522.1344 (On Screen): The government of the province of Ontario has announced that an al Qaeda cell which had been operating in the province had been driven out by intense attention from Ontario law enforcement authorities.
What possible good does this do? All the men involved are still free; they can reorganize somewhere else and continue to plan mischief. All that Ontario has done is to shift the problem to someone else's doorstep.
If this demonstrates anything, it's that the Ontario authorities were inept. They didn't manage to accumulate enough information for arrests and trials, to get the members of the cell off the street, but did managed to get spotted by the militants who decided to pick up and move somewhere else.
Update: Cranky Hermit and Banana Counting Monkey both comment.
