Stardate
20020427.1359 (On Screen): Apparently there was a difference of opinion in Rome about how to handle priests who are child molesters, or else it didn't take long for the message to sink in that the announcement in Rome wasn't good enough for the American laity.
It happens that the majority of American Cardinals happen to be meeting in Philadelphia right now, and they've announced that they're going to propose a "zero-tolerance" policy to the American conference of Bishops in June, and then hope to get the Pope to accept it.
I'm even more curious now about just who it was in Rome who was pushing for a more lenient policy, and what their motivation was.
