Stardate 20020213.2202

(On Screen): Now it's going to hit the fan. The head of the French Olympic team has stated that the French figure skating judge was pressured before voting for the Russian pair. I'm no historian of the games, but the only times I've ever heard of anyone losing their medals was when it had been shown later that they had cheated. I've never heard of a case where the judges cheated. (No-one has suggested that the Russian skating pair was involved in this except as honest competitors.)

Seems to me that the right thing to do is to collect a different panel of judges and to let the Canadian and Russian pairs each perform again, to decide the gold and silver medals between them.

Update 20020214: More press coverage. By the way, "fragile persons" who are susceptible to pressure have no business judging in international events.

Update 20020215: The Canadian team has been awarded their own set of gold medals; the French judge has been suspended.
