USS Clueless - mail strangeness

Stardate 20020202.0552

(Engineering log): A mystery has been solved. Some people have had no trouble at all registering with UBBS, while other people have not received their passwords in the mail. One observant user has mailed me to point out that my system is identifying itself as "regulus.san.rr.com" in the mail which it sends, which name is not actually registered. As a result, the local anti-spam software on his (and presumably on other systems) is rejecting the message as invalid. (Good work, Jubal!)

This explains a great deal, because I have received letters from people who have not received their passwords, while at the same time others clearly have because they've registered and begun posting. I wasn't sure what was going on.

I'm going to have to work on this to figure out if there's any way to prevent it. In the mean time, if you've registered for the discussion system and haven't received your password in 12 hours, please send me email directly and I'll send you the account name and password myself.

Update: A test suggests that in fact what I tried did fix the problem. If you've missed your password, please use the menus in UBBS to request that it be sent to you again.
