20011228.1004 (On Screen): In an AP report about the fact that combat has already started between India and Pakistan, they included this picture:
You got your resolute inantryman sitting behind his machine gun, looking alert and formidable. OK fine. I'm no military man, but it still seems as if there's something wrong with this picture. Why is the belt of bullets loaded in the middle, with unspent cartridges hanging out both sides? You do that, you're going to waste some of the rounds. You don't load a machine gun belt in the middle; you load one end of it.
