Stardate 20011120.1955 (On Screen): Another company which has been on the
USS Clueless deathwatch for a while now is Palm, and it's continuing to sink. There are probably going to be mass layoffs there in the next few weeks. While it's true that they're competing now against Microsoft, the consensus was that this was Palm's battle to lose, not Microsoft's to win. Given that at one point it had a 90% market share in PDAs, its fall from grace and stunning mistakes cannot really be blamed on anything except its own
incompetence and
missteps. It's a shame; it had an opportunity for greatness.
