Stardate 20011019.0543 (On Screen): After a trip home, Ambassador Zaeef is back in Pakistan and apparently carries a new proposal that he intends to deliver to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry. For the moment he isn't revealing what it is, but he says that they still refuse to give up bin Laden (which isn't surprising, since there's every reason to believe that he's really the power behind the crown). Pakistan
says it will listen. I don't expect anything important to come from this; if there are any concessions in this offer at all, they'll be minor and unimportant. The primary goal of this move will be to try to cast the Taliban as a reasonable government trying to find a peaceful conclusion in a struggle brought onto it by an international bully; it's going to be yet another attempt to play the "victim" card.
(discuss)I suspect it's going to amount to "Stop bombing us and let's talk it over."
