Stardate 20011005.1613 (On Screen): There's good reason to believe that the Taliban have ordered their forces in Kandahar to abandon the city, move into the mountains to the south, and dig in. I can't think of a nicer thing they've done for us for a long time. If they'd stayed in the city, we would have been forced to bomb them there, destroying buildings and killing civilians. Now they've kindly moved their troops out into the countryside away from any distractions, so that they can be bombed more efficiently. There must be something I'm missing about them; everything they're doing seems completely irrational.
