Stardate 20010926.0419 (On Screen): A crowd of people in Afghanistan has burned the long-abandoned US embasy in Kabul. Of course, when something like this happens in a totalitarian nation, there's always the suspicion that it was less than spontaneous. Anyway, it's an empty gesture at best and certainly will have no important effect on the flow of events. However, if we learned anything in New York, it was that we should not be complacent. This gesture by the Taliban did us no harm. The next one might be very bad. No-one should assume that no more American civilians will be killed in this war.
