Stardate 20010922.0717 (On Screen): Secretary of State Powell is showing himself to be a superb diplomat; his choice for that position was inspired. (It's interesting that probably the best Secretary of State of the 20th century,
George Marshall, was also a former head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.) Powell and his people have been doing a superb job of getting other countries to line up in support of the US: the
Organization of American States, the
EU, Pakistan,
New Zealand, and
Tajikistan among many others. A far more impressive diplomatic feat was to get
China to cooperate, considering how high tensions were between the US and China just a few months ago.
