Stardate 20010814.0637 (On Screen): This article describes a number of useful resource sites on the web, and it inspired me to do the same:

The CIA World Factbook is an excellent reference for basic information about the nations of the world. The information is comprehensive and well organized.
Three sites (Nizkor's Fallacies, the Atheism Web and Stephen Downes) are essential weapons for saying to someone in an argument "Not only are you using faulty logic, it's so classically faulty that it's been documented online."
Snopes and Hoaxbusters are excellent resources for researching urban legends.
EDGAR is an online database maintained by the SEC which contains all the filings for publicly-traded companies in the US since 1994. Particularly important are "10-Q" and "10-K" filings, which are the ones where the companies have to declare their financial results. Here are the filings for IBM, Apple and Microsoft.
Delphion maintains a complete online database of patents, which can be searched by keyword or by patent number. (Here's one of mine.)
This page lists all the top level nation domains on the web.
The New Hacker's Dictionary is an essential adjunct to a standard dictionary.
Who's Alive and Who's Dead is the place to go to find out whether Chuck Jones is still breathing (he is).
If your doctor gives you a new drug and you want to find out what it really is, the Norse's PDR is the best place to start.
And if you're living in California and feel the ground shake, this site tells you where the earthquake was located. (Here's the biggest one I've felt.)

There you have it. Use them in good health. (discuss)
