Stardate 20010802.1909 (On Screen): Before he was arrested, Dmitry Sklyarov was in Las Vegas giving a talk at DefCON. This article reveals what he was talking about. No wonder Adobe was pissed. It turns out that most of the encryption algorithms being used for eBooks are laughable. A couple of them are so weak that they make the DVD CSS look strong. One of them is actually using
rot13. The one used by Adobe is reasonably strong, but it includes the key in the file (which rather defeats the point). "Inept" doesn't even begin to describe them.
