Stardate 20010528.1307 (On Screen): It's interesting how the credibility of a source can depend on the credentials presented for him. Bruce Perens is announced here as being an
HP executive and
senior strategist on Linux and open source. They don't bother mentioning that Bruce Perens is also the guy who is trying to
shake down IBM and other companies -- including HP -- to force them to release their patents into the public domain in order to prove that they Get It. We'll see just how much HP believes in Perens's ideas when we find out how many of their own patents they release into the public domain in response to his calls. So far, none to speak of.
